We were delighted to take part in the Alex Park Restoration Celebration Weekender, together with a whole host of other community projects. Our bicycle-powered cinema was there, with a daytime iphone disco and an early dusk soiree, including a screening of a fascinating nature documentary in collaboration with Whalley Range 4 Wildlife. Our area also included a large-scale installation by Artist Lotte Karlsen

In line with the heritage of the Park, our Speakers Corner returned, with a two-day programme of speakers and performers from the local area, including representatives from Pankhurst Centre,  Cultureword and Young Identity. The Whalley Range Forum and the Moss Side Allotment, to mention a few.  Alex Arts in-house Artist Naomi Kashiwagi created a back drop installation for this space and aGramophonica (Pankhurst Remix); a live gramophone glitching on a wind-up gramophone turntable against the naturally bedazzling backdrop of the the Parks treescape. She played the 78rpm shellac record, ‘It always rains before the rainbow’ sung by Vera Lynn that was re-appropriated with electrical tape in the Suffragettes colours. These colours are white for purity, green for hope, and purple for dignity. 

The Park has looked like a building site for the past 18 months due to restoration work, paid by Manchester City Council, The Heritage Lottery Fund and various sports bodies. An upgrade that has been a decade in the making. The Park is looking stunning and we are honoured to be apart of this transformation.
